Juan Manuel GARCÍA LÓPEZ
Optimization and Analytics
I am an Analytics professional who has been working in Data Science topics for more than twenty years now. Of course, Data Science didn't go by that name back in the mid nineties, when I started. It was called Statistics, Operations Research, Numerical Analysis or Computer Programming. The terms "Big Data" and "Machine Learning" had not been coined yet, and data was not that big as it is today, but it was big enough so as to clog existing computers, turning it essential to develop a genius for computing performance and data treatment skills: divide and conquer, fast data structures, efficient algorithms, pattern matching, simulation, heuristics, etc.
In addition to using data analysis and decision making software, like SAS, SPSS, CPLEX, XPRESS and many others, it was necessary to code what was not readily available, either in Basic, C, C++, AWK, scripts or similar. Later, Java arrived and settled for a long period. More recently, Mosel, R and Python have become the tool of choice. Using these techniques and tools has been "business as usual" for those of us who combine Math with Information Technologies for helping all kind of businesses make better decisions.
After lecturing Statistics and Operations Research topics for a few years at the University, I built the rest of my career coding, consulting, designing and selling analytic solutions in several industries, including Banking, Retail, Transportation, Manufacturing or Healthcare, solving problems in Supply Chain Management, Resource Assignment or Production Planning. Therefore, effective communication of achievements, business benefits and complex solution details to all possible stakeholders (be they technical or C-level) is required in my current engagements.
I'm always trying to learn something new. Feel free to contact me if you think we can share knowledge or business.
